Hand wash with mild, soapy water and dry immediately. Rub with a light coat of vegetable oil after every wash to keep the iron seasoned and protected from moisture.

Forks were used during the Viking Age (and earlier) in Scandinavia, even though they weren't common. There are currently 17 finds at the History Museum in Sweden, ranging from cutlery-sized forks to larger pot forks. Here's a link to one find of forks:
